Pilgrimage to Washington DC

All good things must come to an end and so must my California road trip, but for good reasons. All my hours in coffee shops job hunting is starting to pay off. I came back to San Diego for two interviews with local consulting firms. At home I got the chance to hang out with Joe Brennan and his family who also coincidentally moved back to San Diego this month. While hanging at the Brennan compound Dan mentioned that he was flying a cessna 210 across country to Washington DC. Still jobless and homeless I found no reason not to tag along. Anyways, I have yet to make my American pilgrimage to our nation's capital.

It took us 15 hours to fly from San Diego to DC. Small aircrafts travel at much slower speeds and at much lower altitudes than typical commercial flights. It also has considerably more turbulence, especially when you are dodging afternoon thunderstorms. But it is one of the best ways to experience the dynamic terrain of the country. Dan and I did the flight in two legs, stopping for one night in the heart land of America, Bryersburg, Tennessee.

I was very easily entertained during my five day trip to DC. I staid most of the time with Casey Brennan and also a night with my fellow Bren grad and close friend Anne Middleton. Casey has been in the area the last four years is pretty well established. Whether BBQing, drinking beer from his kegorator, playing water polo, blue berry picking, or having crazy nights on the town, Casey was always up for the next adventure.

While in DC I also got the chance to play the tourist. I hit up more Smithsonian's than I can count an saw the usual mega structures. I have to say that I visiting the capital made me proud to be an American.
